The Digital Nomad Starter Pack: What You Actually Need
Instagram shows Digital Nomads with just a laptop on a hammock. Reality Check: If you try to code on a hammock, your back will break and the sun glare will blind you.
To actually work while traveling, you need a reliable mobile office. Here is the no-nonsense starter pack.
1. Multi-Country Travel Adapter
Don't buy cheap ones at the airport. Get a solid Universal Adapter with multiple USB-C ports (like products from Epicka or Mogics). You want to charge your laptop, phone, and camera from one outlet.
2. A Legit Power Bank
Your laptop battery will die at the worst moment. Get a power bank with Power Delivery (PD) of 60W or higher (e.g., Anker 737). If it can't charge your laptop, it's just a heavy paperweight.
3. The Roost Stand (or clone)
This is a collapsible laptop stand that raises your screen to eye level. It weighs nothing but saves your neck. You verify need a separate bluetooth keyboard and mouse (Logitech MX Keys Mini and MX Anywhere 3 are the gold standard).
4. Noise Cancelling Headset
Hostels are loud. Cafes are loud. Planes are loud. Bringing a Sony WH-1000XM5 or Bose QC45 is not a luxury; it's a requirement for focus.
5. Mobile Hotspot / eSIM
Never rely 100% on hotel WiFi. Setup an Airalo (eSIM app) account or carry a portable 4G/5G router. Redundancy keeps you employed.
Leave at home:
- Shorts with no pockets.
- Your second heavyweight monitor (use an iPad with Sidecar instead).
- Paper books (get a Kindle).
